Situated within the confines of the Western Ghats in the southern Indian state of Kerala, Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is one of the most captivating wildlife parks in the world. Periyar sanctuary also called the Tekkadi wildlife sanctuary, this place is ideal for watching the animals in their natural habitat. Herds of playful wild elephants have made this place their blissful abode. Periyar is one of the world's famous wildlife reserves where one can lay their eyes on the other creatures as well. The vast area of the park encompasses a lot of other animals such as leopard, wild dog, barking deer, mouse deer, Nilgiri langur (a primate), bonnet macaque, sambhar, porcupines, squirrels, gaur (Indian bison), wild boar and sloth bear.
Air: The nearest airheads are Madurai (140 kms) and Kochi (190 kms).
Road: The nearest bus station is Kumily (4 kms) which is well connected to Ernakulam, Kovalam, Kodaikanal (Tamil Nadu), Trivandrum and Munnar.
